Baseball Recap: Caliche Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Merino, Caliche was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Wray Eagles. For the Buffaloes, this counts as revenge for the 7-2 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Zander Yost, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Caliche's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Kloberdanz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Caliche's record now sits at 7-11. As for Wray, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Caliche will welcome Sedgwick County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.53 runs per game on average), something the Buffaloes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wray, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-0 defeat against Wiggins on the 26th.
