Baseball Game Preview: Genesee Valley Jaguars vs. Fillmore Eagles

Genesee Valley hasn't had much luck against Fillmore recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Genesee Valley 1.5, Fillmore 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Genesee Valley came up short against Bolivar-Richburg and fell 5-2. The loss was the Jaguars' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Fillmore won against Andover two weeks ago with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles skirted past Cuba-Rushford 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Jared Boon and Damon Potter were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Boon didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Potter pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Boon went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, while Potter went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was Potter's first of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kalan Beardsley, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Fillmore kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Genesee Valley fell to 7-1. As for Fillmore, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Genesee Valley beat Fillmore 8-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
