Westfield came out on top against Chautauqua Lake on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run seventh inning. The Wolverines took their matchup against the Eagles 12-7. The game was the first time the Wolverines have beaten the Eagles on their field since May 16, 2023.
The team relied heavily on Logan Baum, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trent Ramm, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Westfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Frewsburg had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won nine contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Maddox Sheesley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Chase Haglund was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Frewsburg pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westfield, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Frewsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
