Basketball Recap: Kearney Comes Up Short

Kearney has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 43-34 to the Bellevue West Thunderbirds on Saturday. If the Bearcats were looking for revenge after losing 63-49 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Bellevue West found their leader in freshman Stevie Harley, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 20 rebounds. Harley has become a key player for Bellevue West: the team is 6-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 5-7 otherwise. Da'Nyla Tatum was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Kearney's loss dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Bellevue West, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Bearcats challenge the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bellevue West, they will take on Lincoln Southwest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lincoln Southwest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season.
