Baseball Recap: Watertown Raiders vs. Winchester Red & Black
Watertown had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it five. They came up short against the Winchester Red & Black, falling 8-2. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red & Black apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
As for Winchester, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-5. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Winchester's part, Stephen McCabe tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. McCabe has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Daniels, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Nolan Gannon also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Coming up, Watertown will welcome Arlington at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Winchester, they will head out on the road to face off against Burlington at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
