Basketball Recap: Ahoskie Christian Comes Up Short

Ahoskie Christian easily dispatched Suffolk Christian Academy last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Ahoskie Christian fell just short of Coastal Brigade by a score of 56-53 on Thursday.

Despite the loss, Ahoskie Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaelen Rascoe went 12-for-18 on his way to 28 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Rascoe's fourth in a row with at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Leary, who posted eight points.

Coastal Brigade was led to victory by Luke Bledsoe and Beau Brake. Bledsoe shot 55% from the field to rack up 18 points, while Brake dropped a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards. Those 17 rebounds gave Brake a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kai Betts, who went 5-for-12 en route to 11 points.

Ahoskie Christian now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Coastal Brigade, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coincidentally, Ahoskie Christian and Coastal Brigade will both be playing Mount Calvary Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Coastal Brigade will head out to face Mount Calvary Christian Academy at 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, while Ahoskie Christian will head out to face them at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
