Baseball Game Preview: Timberlane Owls vs. Alvirne Broncos

The Timberlane Owls are taking a road trip to square off against the Alvirne Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Timberlane is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since May 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Bishop Guertin 9-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Owls.

Meanwhile, Alvirne came into Thursday's game having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out Keene 7-5. The Broncos' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alex Small spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Charlie Crawford and Mikey Bebris did most of the damage at the plate: Crawford went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Bebris got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was Bebris' first of the season.

Alvirne's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 2-9. As for Timberlane, the win got them back to even at 5-5-1.

Timberlane was able to grind out a solid victory over Alvirne when the teams last played back in May of 2022, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
