Baseball Game Preview: Monroe Central Seminoles vs. Barnesville Shamrocks

The Monroe Central Seminoles will head out to square off against the Barnesville Shamrocks at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monroe Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Monroe Central took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cameron, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Seminoles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dragons on Friday, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Seminoles have posted since March 29th.

Ryder Muntz tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Monroe Central is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Prestin Binegar was incredible, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caleb Griffith, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Monroe Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Barnesville got the win against Brooke on Friday by a conclusive 15-2.

Barnesville's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-9. As for Monroe Central, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.

Monroe Central couldn't quite finish off Barnesville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Seminoles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
