Basketball Recap: El Capitan Eagles vs. Water Canyon Wildcats

El Capitan won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They lost 51-25 to the Water Canyon Wildcats. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

El Capitan's loss came despite strong showings from Samantha Hammon and Priscilla Black. Hammon posted 15 points and five rebounds, while Black earned three points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 60% of El Capitan's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Water Canyon had a senior duo take command as Alysha Cooke dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds and Martha Jessop went 7 of 10 on her way to 16 points and eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cooke has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tammra Johnson, who had eight points and four steals.

El Capitan now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Water Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
