Softball Recap: Cobre Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

Cobre had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Socorro Warriors with a sharp 20-1 win. Considering the Indians have won 11 contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ezmyah Dominguez looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ayvah Ortiz was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Isis Dominguez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cobre was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .737. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.

Cobre's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Socorro, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

Coincidentally, Cobre and Socorro will both be playing Hatch Valley the next time they take the field. The Indians will head out to face the Bears at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Warriors will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on May 1.
