Basketball Recap: Gus Mcgill's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Weeping Water over Elmwood-Murdock

Weeping Water was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 66-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elmwood-Murdock Knights. The Indians were probably out for revenge after losing 61-39 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gus McGill, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. McGill is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Fulton, who posted 14 points.

Weeping Water's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Elmwood-Murdock, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Weeping Water and Elmwood-Murdock could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Weeping Water (ranked 235th) will meet Johnson-Brock (ranked 26th) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Elmwood-Murdock (ranked 139th) will meet Auburn (ranked 32nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
