Recap: Arrupe Jesuit Generals vs. Jefferson Saints

The Arrupe Jesuit Generals won against the Jefferson Saints last Tuesday with 47 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Arrupe Jesuit came out on top in a nail-biter against Jefferson and snuck past 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Arrupe Jesuit has posted against Jefferson since February 24, 2018.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arrupe Jesuit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ari Cowans, who scored 19 points along with three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Cowans has scored at least a third of Arrupe Jesuit's points. Another player making a difference was David Diaz, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominic Garcia. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garcia has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Lynch, who scored ten points along with three steals.

Even though they lost, Jefferson were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Arrupe Jesuit's third in a row) raised their record to 4-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Jefferson, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Arrupe Jesuit won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Stargate School at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Stargate School presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Arrupe Jesuit in Colorado (Stargate School is ranked 131st, while Arrupe Jesuit is ranked 295th). As for Jefferson, they will be playing at home against Englewood at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Englewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
