Portsmouth is a perfect 10-0 against Dawson-Bryant since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Jacob Roth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Portsmouth is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Roth was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other pitching news, Reid Click looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Camron Williams was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Nik Copley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Dawson-Bryant was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Minford. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since April 19, 2024.
Derek Bloomfield was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Leland McKnight, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Portsmouth is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dawson-Bryant, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Dawson-Bryant's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Portsmouth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. It's a different story for Dawson-Bryant, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Portsmouth's hitters?
