Softball Recap: Alcorn Central Gets the Win

While Alcorn Central's victory against Baldwyn wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Alcorn Central Bears sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Baldwyn Bearcats on Friday. Seven seems to be a good number for the Bears as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Glorianna Johnson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexie Dixon, who scored a run and stole a base.

Alcorn Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Alcorn Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Baldwyn dropped their record down to 4-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Alcorn Central has already played their next match, a 5-3 win against New Albany on the 14th. As for Baldwyn, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Baldwyn Bearcats challenge Jumpertown Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
