Baseball Game Preview: Clarkrange Buffaloes vs. Pickett County Bobcats

Clarkrange is 1-9 against Pickett County since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Buffaloes will welcome the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m.

Clarkrange is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of York Institute. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Buffaloes were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Pickett County got the win against Red Boiling Springs on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jonah Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jayden Daniels and Eli Reagan did most of the damage at the plate: Daniels went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Reagan scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Daniels is becoming a predictor of Pickett County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Rex Reagan was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Clarkrange's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Pickett County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clarkrange has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pickett County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts.
