Baseball Recap: Fairfield Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Fairfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Whiteoak Wildcats 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Wildcats back in April, they had to take a 8-4 loss.

Blaine Fauber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Fairfield is 4-2 when Fauber allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Fauber was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zane Matthews, who went 4-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Fairfield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Anderson Humphreys, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Fairfield now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Whiteoak, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.

Coming up, Fairfield is taking a road trip to face off against Manchester at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Whiteoak does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
