Sylvania is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Asbury a ten-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. Sylvania will be playing at home against Asbury at 4:30 p.m. Sylvania is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Sylvania fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Collinsville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 10-9.
Mara Anderson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed eight innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off 11 hits. Anderson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Jada Hutchison was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Katlyn Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Asbury fell victim to Collinsville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 17-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Rams haven't been shut out since back in February.
Sylvania's defeat dropped their record down to 9-19. As for Asbury, their loss dropped their record down to 2-20.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sylvania has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Asbury struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Sylvania's way against Asbury in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Sylvania made off with a 19-1 victory. Will Sylvania repeat their success, or does Asbury has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
