Softball Game Preview: Niagara Falls Wolverines vs. Lancaster Legends

The Niagara Falls Wolverines will take on the Lancaster Legends at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Niagara Falls 3.4, Lancaster 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lancaster will be up against a hot Niagara Falls squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Wolverines came out on top against Jamestown by a score of 7-3 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Lancaster got the win against Niagara-Wheatfield on Saturday by a conclusive 14-3. Considering the Legends have won seven contests by more than ten runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alyssa Brunner was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Brennah DeWald was a standout: she went 3-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 12 matchups. Lily Kuzara was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lancaster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lancaster is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Niagara Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Niagara Falls couldn't quite get it done against Lancaster in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
