Baseball Recap: Lawrence County Continues Home Dominance on Friday

While Lawrence County's win against McComb wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 6-5. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Justin Walker tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Bryce Prestridge was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Grey Boyd was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Lawrence County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for McComb, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Lawrence County will square off against Loyd Star at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Hornets have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for McComb, they will welcome Richland at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
