Preview: Barron Collier Cougars vs. Dunbar Tigers
Barron Collier is 1-6 against Dunbar since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Barron Collier Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Dunbar Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Barron Collier knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Dunbar likes a good challenge.
Barron Collier posted their biggest win since December 14, 2023 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Aubrey Rogers as Barron Collier made off with a 83-57 victory. Given Barron Collier's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while Aubrey Rogers is ranked 600th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Spencer Clayton was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with three steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Markhart, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Dunbar suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of South Fort Myers by a score of 57-54.
Despite the loss, Dunbar saw an underclassman step up: Hezekiah Jones scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. Garyan Burger was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Barron Collier's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Dunbar, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.
Barron Collier came up short against Dunbar when the teams last played back in January of 2020, falling 77-68. Can Barron Collier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
