Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Mountain Has No Trouble Against Coronado

While Cheyenne Mountain didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 63-38 margin over the Coronado Cougars on Friday. The Red-Tailed Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 25 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Cayden Cooper, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight steals and four blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marek Patterson, who went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points along with five assists and five steals.

Cheyenne Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only posted four assists.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jalyn Jarboe, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 17 points.

Cheyenne Mountain's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Coronado, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

After both having extra time off, Cheyenne Mountain and Pueblo East will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 3:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. One thing working in Pueblo East's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Coronado, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sand Creek at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
