Recap: Hanks Knights vs. Del Valle Conquistadores
The Hanks Knights lost against the Del Valle Conquistadores back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Hanks was outmatched by Del Valle on the road and fell 49-16. Hanks has struggled against Del Valle recently, as their match on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Oliver, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown. Oliver is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Jude Blanco was another key contributor, picking up 134 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Del Valle's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Fette, who threw for 322 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt. Fette is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last three games he's played. Josiah Nunez got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Hanks' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Bel Air (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.3% over those games). As for Del Valle, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hanks will take on Parkland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Parkland is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Del Valle, they will head out on the road to face off against Ysleta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ysleta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 828th, while Del Valle is ranked 295th).
