Softball Recap: Duluth East Triumphs

While Duluth East put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Moose Lake/Willow River. The Greyhounds walked away with a 5-0 win over the Rebels. For the Greyhounds, this counts as revenge for the 9-2 victory the Rebels walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.

Not much got past Jossie Filiatrault, who gave up just five hits to keep Moose Lake/Willow River off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Harper Tomaich, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Carly Romano also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Duluth East and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Moose Lake/Willow River, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Duluth East and Moose Lake/Willow River could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Greyhounds will square off against Hermantown at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (131 vs. 50). Meanwhile, Moose Lake/Willow River (ranked 139th) will meet Rock Ridge co-op [Eveleth-Gilbert/Virginia] (ranked 20th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
