Softball Recap: O'connor Beats Sunnyside for Their Third Straight Victory

Sunnyside typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday O'Connor proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 8-3. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly five runs.

Rachel Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sydnee Williams, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Charleigh Schuettler was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: O'Connor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 12-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory (which was O'Connor's third in a row) raised their record to 20-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sunnyside, with the defeat, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 22-7-1.

Looking ahead, O'Connor will take on Red Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Mountain Lions have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Sunnyside, they will square off against Corona del Sol at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Aztecs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.18 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
