Basketball Game Preview: Halifax Academy Knights vs. Montverde Academy Purple Eagles

Having just played yesterday, the Halifax Academy Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Montverde Academy Purple Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Monday, Halifax Academy got the win against River City Science Academy by a conclusive 67-47. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Montverde Academy Purple was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Four Corners 68-32. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Coyotes are ranked 634th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Halifax Academy better focus on containing Jeremiah Gordon and Dylan Layton as the pair were huge in Montverde Academy Purple's win. Gordon posted 15 points, while Layton dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance also gave Layton a new career-high in assists (five). Mincheng Cao was another key player, putting up ten points.

Halifax Academy's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Montverde Academy Purple, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9.
