Baseball Game Preview: Sacramento Dragons vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks

The Sacramento Dragons will venture away from home to take on the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sacramento has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Sacramento's offense. They lost 27-0 to Rodriguez on Thursday. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Mesa Verde unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against Vacaville Christian, falling 6-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Mavericks were not able to get on the board.

Mesa Verde saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Steven Pinola, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Sacramento's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Mesa Verde, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-2.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sacramento has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Mesa Verde struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Sacramento might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Mesa Verde in their previous meeting back in February. Can Sacramento avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
