Basketball Preview: Marshall Rams vs. Johnson Jaguars

Marshall has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Johnson Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Wednesday, Marshall came up short against the Volunteers and fell 63-50. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 839th, while the Volunteers are ranked 205th).

Marshall's defeat came about despite a quality game from Aric Goodman, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Goodman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Jai Lopez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Johnson's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Reagan. Johnson has struggled against the Rattlers recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Marshall's loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-21. As for Johnson, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-18.

Marshall opened the new year with a less-than-successful 59-51 defeat to the Jaguars. Can Marshall avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
