It was fun while it lasted, but Altus's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Thursday. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elk City Elks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.
Trent Carman put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Carman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Carman wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tate Saxon, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Saxon has posted since back in March of 2024. Garrett Gribble was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Having lost for the first time this season, Altus fell to 3-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Altus will head out to face off against Noble at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elk City, they are taking a road trip to take on Bishop McGuinness at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
