Softball Recap: Trona Find Success

Trona played in-conference for the first time on Thursday and got just the result they were looking for. They came out on top against the Lee Vining Tigers by a score of 6-2. For the Tornadoes, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 victory the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Lily Mehan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chloe Corrion, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyomi Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Trona now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Lee Vining, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trona will host Desert Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lee Vining, they will take on Lone Pine at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
