Football Recap: Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix vs. Marquez Gladiators
Dr. Maya Angelou Community was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 18-7 to the Marquez Gladiators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Phoenix of the 33-32 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2015.
Joshua Ayala was his usual excellent self, rushing for 150 yards and three touchdowns for Marquez. Ayala's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 131 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Marquez, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dr. Maya Angelou Community will head out to face off against Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marquez, they will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Santee at 7:30 p.m. The timing isn't great for Santee: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Marquez has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
