Volleyball Recap: Axtell Falls Despite Big Games from Addyson Skaggs and Mina Schilling

Axtell was the 3-2 winner over Grand Island Lutheran when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Wildcats fell just short of the Lightning by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Axtell sadly wound up on the wrong side. The final score came out to 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14.

Axtell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mina Schilling, who had 12 digs and two aces, and Addyson Skaggs, who had 26 digs and 16 kills. Skaggs is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Grand Island Lutheran's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubree Fosket, who had 13 digs. That's the most digs Fosket has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Holley Lassonde, who had nine digs and one assist.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Grand Island Lutheran, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Axtell has already played their next contest (against Giltner), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Grand Island Lutheran, they will welcome Burwell at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
