Volleyball Recap: Lake Zurich Starts Season with Victory Against Grant Community + How To Watch

Lake Zurich took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Grant Community Bulldogs 2-1. That's more bragging rights for the Bears, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Lake Zurich got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 24-26, 25-19.

Lake Zurich was led to victory by Ella Elsen and Emme Lawrence. Elsen had six digs and three aces, while Lawrence had 12 digs. What's more, Elsen racked up 18 assists, the most she's had since back in October of 2024.

They weren't the only good server: Lake Zurich was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Grant Community still got an impressive performance from Kaelee Feliciano, who had 12 digs and three aces.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Zurich will challenge Grayslake North at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Grant Community, they will face off against Waukegan at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
