Soccer Game Preview: Olympia vs. Athens/PORTA

Olympia hasn't had much luck against Athens/PORTA recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Spartans will challenge the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Olympia is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Spartans who were credited with the win. Olympia got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to Peoria Christian's one. Olympia's winning goal came courtesy of Elyse Eimer.

Olympia will be up against a hot Athens/PORTA team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. The Warriors never let Illinois Valley Central get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for Athens/PORTA, who have now won 17 games by three goals or more so far this season.

Olympia is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those six matchups. As for Athens/PORTA, their victory bumped their record up to 18-5.

Olympia might still be hurting after the 7-2 defeat they got from Athens/PORTA in their previous meeting last Saturday. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Spartans were down 5-0.
