Softball Recap: West Bladen Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

West Bladen proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Clinton Dark Horses 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-1 last Tuesday.

Allison Hickman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Hickman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marlene Crabtree, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

West Bladen pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Clinton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Bladen will square off against East Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Clinton, they will challenge Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dark Horses are facing the Red Devils at the right time seeing as the Red Devils are stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
