Baseball Recap: Lakewood Sets Scoring Season-High Against LEAP Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakewood). They put the hurt on the LEAP Academy Lancers with a sharp 24-11 victory on Friday. This was payback for the Piners, who suffered a 20-11 loss the last time these two teams met.

Abel Martinez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Lakewood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Chris Herrera also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Lakewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

The win made it two in a row for Lakewood and bumps their season record up to 4-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for LEAP Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-15-1.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will challenge New Egypt at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for LEAP Academy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-3 defeat against Bridgeton on the 26th.
