Basketball Recap: Michael Brown and Sam Jackson Secure Win for Hernando

Hernando won the last time they faced Bishop McLaughlin Catholic and things went their way on Friday too. The Hernando Leopards secured a 47-41 W over the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Leopards.

Hernando was led to victory by Sam Jackson and Michael Brown. Jackson dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, while Brown posted 12 points and five steals. Those five steals gave Brown a new career-high. Daniel Merizalde was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Hernando smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Hernando's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they moved to 9-2 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Hernando won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Spring Hill Christian Academy at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Hill Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Hernando likes a good challenge. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Keswick Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
