A feisty cat fight will be fought as Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars challenge Dwyer Panthers at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dwyer took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Pembroke Pines Charter, who comes in off a win.
Pembroke Pines Charter was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Satellite on Saturday. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Scorpions with a sharp 8-1 victory. With that win, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Destiney Ortega was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Ortega was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Pembroke Pines Charter got a big performance out of Brielle Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was Martinez's first of the season. Ariana Bonilla was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Dwyer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 8-2 to John Carroll Catholic.
Dwyer saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brielle Cardoso, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Dwyer's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.
Dwyer's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pembroke Pines Charter has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Dwyer, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Pembroke Pines Charter's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pembroke Pines Charter was able to grind out a solid win over Dwyer in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, winning 11-6. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
