Softball Recap: State College Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

State College had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Cedar Cliff Colts get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-3 on Tuesday.

Addison Harpster was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Harpster was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Wells, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jessica Hawbaker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.

State College kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

State College pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cedar Cliff, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. State College will head out to face off against Mechanicsburg at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cedar Cliff, they will venture away from home to take on Mifflin County at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
