Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salem Hills). Everything went their way against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Friday as the Salem Hills Skyhawks made off with a 68-48 victory. Given the Skyhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 53rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salem Hills had a senior duo take command as Chenielle Nye dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds and Brooke Warren went 8 for 13 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. The game was Warren's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reagan Beck, who posted 11 points.
Salem Hills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Maple Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Smith, who earned seven points and three steals. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January of 2024. Salem Hills is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
