Softball Recap: Carey Comes Up Short

Carey had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Colonel Crawford Eagles by a score of 2-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Colonel Crawford, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Colonel Crawford's part, the result came thanks to Peyton Rowlinson's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Olivia Friley was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Rylie Hoepf was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carey will venture away from home to take on Monroeville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Colonel Crawford, they are taking a road trip to face off against Seneca East at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
