Basketball Recap: Hodgeman County Extends Winning Streak to Six

Hodgeman County waltzed into their match on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They strolled past the Cheylin Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 44-30.

Hodgeman County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallorie Ruff, who posted 11 points and seven boards. Caitlin Channell was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

Hodgeman County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Cheylin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Taylor McCarty had 18 points along with seven boards and four steals. That was a full 60% of Cheylin's points, marking the fifth time in a row McCarty has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Hodgeman County's record is now 17-5. As for Cheylin, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-6.

Coming up, Hodgeman County will venture away from home to square off against Lebo at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lebo's defense has only allowed 28.4 points per game this season, so Hodgeman County's offense will have their work cut out for them. Cheylin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
