Softball Game Preview: Maine West Warriors vs. Maine East Blue Demons

Maine West is 9-1 against Maine East since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Blue Demons at 4:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maine West has seven straight wins, Maine East has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Maine East's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Maine West hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Warriors never let Evanston get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory on Monday.

The result came thanks to KAITLYN MARSH's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on BROOKE MATTSON, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of KARA LINDENMUTH, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Maine East's offense. They lost 12-0 to Niles West on Tuesday.

Maine West pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Maine East, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Maine East's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maine West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. It's a different story for Maine East, though, as they've only averaged .159. Will they be able to contain Maine West's hitters?
