Football Game Preview: St. Michael the Archangel Guardians vs. Father Tolton

The St. Michael the Archangel Guardians will challenge Father Tolton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

St. Michael the Archangel is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Saturday with ease, bagging a 72-8 win over Hogan Prep Charter. The victory continues a trend for the Guardians in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won five in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Luis Tellado and Reece Fredrickson. Tellado rushed for 77 yards and four TDs on only six carries while Fredrickson rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Tellado a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryon Buster, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

St. Michael the Archangel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 229 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

St. Michael the Archangel's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB nine times. The heavy lifting was done by Lance Barry and Ethan Niewald, who racked up four sacks between them. Barry also made four total tackles, which is notable because St. Michael the Archangel is undefeated when he posts at least four total tackles, but 2-3 otherwise. Mac Vanbebber was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Father Tolton never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat KIPP Legacy 49-0. Considering Father Tolton has won five contests by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Michael the Archangel's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Father Tolton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

St. Michael the Archangel and Father Tolton were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but St. Michael the Archangel suffered an agonizing 29-28 loss.
