Softball Recap: Irvin Rockets vs. Ysleta Indians
Irvin had lost 12 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-21 to make it 13. They came up short against the Ysleta Indians, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-0 on April 2nd.
Irvin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aleena Flores, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
As for Ysleta, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-13-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by ten runs or more this season.
On Ysleta's side, Savannah Jurado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jurado has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Gabrielle Escontrias was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Dominguez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run.
As of now, neither Irvin nor Ysleta have any future games scheduled.
