Softball Recap: Lockwood Takes Down Ranked Purdy

Lockwood faced Purdy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Tigers never let the Eagles get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 12 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kallie Griffin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracyn Clawson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Peyton Lasater was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Lockwood, bringing their record up to 22-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Purdy, the loss snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 16-8 record.

As of now, neither Lockwood nor the Eagles have any future games scheduled.
