Baseball Recap: Yuma Takes a Loss

Yuma made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Highland, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Outlaws fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Outlaws have suffered since April 8th.

Silas Baucke was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Baucke was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jesus Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Yuma and nudges their season record down to 12-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Highland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5-1 record this season.

Yuma will challenge Burlington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Outlaws surely won't give up without a fight. As for Highland, they will square off against Liberty Common at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.21 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
