Basketball Game Preview: Hearne Eagles vs. Port Aransas Marlins

The Hearne Eagles will square off against the Port Aransas Marlins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Hearne's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.

Hearne is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 75-47 win over Santa Maria. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Hearne got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kellen Bowser out in front who went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayden Mercer, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and seven steals.

Thorndale typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Port Aransas proved too difficult a challenge. They managed a 48-44 win over the Bulldogs. The victory was familiar territory for the Marlins, who have now won three contests in a row.

Port Aransas' win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 29-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points over those games. As for Hearne, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season.

Hearne strolled past Port Aransas in their previous matchup back in March of 2019 by a score of 55-37. Does Hearne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Port Aransas turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
