The Brookside Cardinals will challenge the Black River Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Thursday, Brookside didn't have quite enough to beat Wellington and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Dukes: they've now lost six in a row.
Brookside took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-9, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-5.

Despite the loss, Brookside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sydney Adkins had 13 digs and six aces. Adkins is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 21 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Meanwhile, Black River suffered their biggest defeat since October 3, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 3-0 to Firelands.
While Black River ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-18, 25-19.
Loss or not, Black River got some senior leadership from Remington Dieter and Kate Dieter. Remington had 22 digs and two assists, while Kate had 17 digs and one assist. Those 17 digs set a new season-high mark for Kate. Haley Jackson also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Brookside's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Black River, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Brookside has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Black River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
