Recap: Banning Pilots vs. La Jolla Country Day Torreys
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Banning Pilots had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Torreys as they made off with a 41-21 win. Considering Banning has won six contests by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Banning's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Deangelis led the charge by rushing for 188 yards and a touchdown. Steven Perez was another key contributor, rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, La Jolla Country Day still got an impressive performance from Jaden Mangini, who rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 181 yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Banning's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.6 points per game. As for La Jolla Country Day, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Banning will take on Woodland Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Woodland Christian will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. La Jolla Country Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
