Basketball Recap: Sophia Dyer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Whiteland over Columbus North

Whiteland was the 62-56 winner over Columbus North when they last played one another back in January of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Whiteland Warriors came up short against the Columbus North Bull Dogs on Saturday, falling 60-36. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Bull Dogs are ranked 55th).

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophia Dyer, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Dyer is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Bryanna Gillock was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.

Columbus North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Johnson, who went 5 for 11 en route to 15 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kaylie Harmon, who posted 14 points.

Whiteland has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Columbus North, they moved to 14-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Whiteland has already played their next match, a 49-33 loss against Greenwood on the 21st. As for Columbus North, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-58 defeat against Silver Creek on the 22nd.
